Stellar Lumens (XLM) on CMC, or Stellar (STR) on LCW

The Stellar project is intended to be a payment ecosystem that connects people, existing payment networks, and banks, with a focus on the developing world. It lets you facilitate multi-currency and asset transactions quickly and for very low fees by using a coin called Lumens (XLM) as a bridge.

Mining/Staking

Transactions on the blockchain happen every two to four seconds.

Development Team

Stellar was founded in 2014 by Jed McCaleb and Joyce Kim. It currently has a much larger development team, and partnerships with IBM and other entities. Some early stage funding came from the Stripe payments organization.

Criticisms, Caveats, and Competitors

Probably one of Stellar's main competitors would be be Ripple, although at the moment, fees are much lower than with Ripple transactions (fractions of a penny per transaction).
